Very fine intimite carving. The quality reflects the artworks of the great Dutch sculptors at the beginning of the 20th century. This carving was exhibited during the exhibition "ART DECO ON BALI" in the Nusantara Museum in Delft (Holland) in 2005. It was published in the book accompanying the exhibition "Art Deco sculptures from Bali" written by Frans Leidelmeier (page 82). This carving was subject of an extraordinary experiment: two Bali-art experts asked a group of distinguished and skillfull young carvers in Bali to try to reproduce this carving with the appropriate means and good quality wood. The last three photos of this artwork show the result of that effort. I will pass the judgement to the visitors of this website, but one thing is clear while comparing these two artworks. It is now almost impossible to reproduce a woodcarving of this quality. This will increase the value of these kind of original carvings even more in the future. |
